Onofiok Luke, the former speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary, has decried the state’s widening gap between the rich and the poor.
He identified existing gaps as a source of mistrust and discord between the state’s political elites and its poor masses.
In a statement signed by Uduak Ikafia, Luke, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, revealed this.

He did admit, however, that the threat cannot be addressed automatically, emphasizing the importance of effective and people-oriented leaders in building on the foundation laid by the state’s founding fathers and previous leaders.
“The widening gap between the privileged few and the underprivileged majority is disheartening,” he says, “despite their faith, trust, and commitment to building the state of their dreams.”
