The Labour Party’s chieftain, Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, issued a dire warning on Friday, stating that the party is doomed to fail due to the ongoing accusations of corruption that are tearing it apart.
Julius Abure, the national chairman of the LP, was the subject of accusations of corruption at the time.
During a news conference on Monday, Oluchi Opara, the party’s national treasurer, threw down the gauntlet to Abure, demanding an explanation for the purported N3.5 billion that was generated from the fundraising efforts and sale of nomination forms leading up to the general elections of 2023.
However, Opara was handed a six-month ban by the party leadership on Wednesday for rejecting an invitation to a meeting for investigation and tarnishing the party’s reputation.
Abure made this challenge while demanding proof to support her N3.5 billion fraud accusation against the party’s suspended national treasurer.
Nonetheless, Joseph—who is also the LP’s presidential candidate for the general election of 2023—called the accusations of corruption regrettable.
Joseph, who is also the national head of the Rescue Movement for New Nigeria, stated that the accusations of embezzlement of funds intended for the presidential campaign were detrimental to the party.
The Rescue Movement for New Nigeria’s National Director of Media and Publicity, Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba, made this announcement in a statement that was given to reporters in Kaduna State on Friday.
To the dismay of all, the LP chieftain voiced concern that the party that Nigerians looked up to had been mired in massive corruption charges.
Noting that the accusations of corruption against Abure should not be ignored, he went on to say that the LP needs to be saved.
Additionally, he questioned the financial report that was made public to Nigerians, calling it “shameful” and pointing out the improper handling of their money.
“Now, mired in massive corruption allegations and financial misappropriation evident in the record on the presidential campaign funds released by Peter Obi, the Labour Party that Nigerians were looking out for to save the country is languishing,” he added. That is why the Labour Party needs to be saved right now.
The horrifying claims of serial financial mismanagement, embezzlement, forgery, and other forms of corruption made against Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party, should not be disregarded.

But we’ll talk about that at a later time. But I’ll demand that the relevant government body conduct a thorough inquiry into the grave accusations and see to it that justice is served.
Questions like how reasonable it is to say that N744.5 million was spent on legal expenses for the election petition tribunal when less than half of that amount was allegedly spent on administering the entire election are among the important ones that beg to be answered.
“How did the money spent on the petition for the presidential election add up to that? We know of certain attorneys who provided pro bono services to the Labour Party.”
