According to the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), the construction of the Loko-Oweto Bridge will cut travel time to Abuja by four hours, whereas the construction of the Second Niger Bridge will reduce the time it takes to cross the River Niger from several hours to just a few minutes. The river crossing is approximately 1.5 kilometers long.

Yesterday, in his remarks at the virtual commissioning of the three bridges, three secretariats, and one road that was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, Fashola made this statement.

In a statement that he issued, Hakeem Bello, the special adviser communications to the minister, said that the Federal Government of Nigeria, working with the state governors, senators and House of Representative members, traditional rulers and other Nigerians, unveiled three major bridges: the Loko-Oweto, Second Niger, and Ikom bridges. They also unveiled a completed section of over 200 kilometres of the Kano-Kaduna Highway and three new federal secretariats.

He stated, “Today, Mr. President will connect Benue to Nasarawa on the Loko – Oweto Bridge, Cross River to Benue on the Ikom Bridge, and Anambra to Delta on the Second Niger Bridge, and will literally connect many parts of Nigeria to themselves.” The bridges in question are the Loko – Oweto Bridge, the Ikom Bridge, and the Cross River Bridge.

“In the same vein, we link Kaduna to Kano on the highway that connects the two cities, and we have an impact on Zamfara, Bayelsa, and Anambra directly through the Secretariats. It is impossible to do justice to both the history of development and the history of the people who lived it in this space.

Our representatives in both houses of parliament were involved in the drama. They allocated funds, gave approval where it was required, and provided oversight throughout the entirety of the project, but they never created any roadblocks. “He said that the state governors, their commissioners, and their traditional rulers are a story that needs to be told.
