Lawmakers, aides stranded as Labour finally closes National Assembly

In a final act of protest over the mistreatment of Comrade Joe Ajaero, national president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), organized labor has closed the National Assembly building in Abuja.

On Wednesday morning, it was noted that as of 9:00 am, all of the gates leading to the National Assembly compound were secured.
For security staff and other necessary workers, the Presidential villa gate connecting the National Assembly complex remained open.

The National Assembly’s management has not yet commented on the issue as of the time this article was completed.

Lawmakers, reporters, legislative assistants, and a number of members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), an organization affiliated with organized labor, were among those denied access to the legislative complex.

According to reports, there was a partial strike at the facility on Tuesday, leaving employees and drivers stranded for many hours.
