Lawmaker from Kano donates N57m to scholarships, empowers women

A lawmaker from Kano has donated N57 million to scholarships and is helping to empower women.

Hon. Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada, Executive Secretary of the Almajirai and Out-of-School Children Commission of Nigeria, has made available to thirty-two students scholarships totaling more than seven million Nigerian naira (N7,000,000) to assist them in their pursuit of an education at the Open University.
In addition, Shaaban, who is a lawmaker and represents the Kano municipal federal constituency in the House of Representatives, contributed N50 million to Alqalam University for the benefit of students from the Kano municipal council. These students had been attending school in Sudan at the time of the conflict in that country, but they had to move their studies elsewhere.
Representatives from a variety of organisations, such as the Independent Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Commission, the National Boundary Commission, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, were among the most notable attendees at the presentation ceremony.
During his remarks, Sharada expressed his gratitude to the Almajirai and Out-of-School Children Commission for providing him with the opportunity to serve as the Executive Secretary of the Commission.
While reiterating his commitment to the work of the commission, he gave the dignitaries the assurance that his appointment would result in an increase in the overall value of the project.
In addition, he promised to keep funding educational initiatives and stated that the practise of offering financial aid in the form of scholarships and grants would be carried on in conjunction with the individual who would succeed him, Engineer Sagir Koki.
One of the things that was done as part of the activities to mark the occasion was the handing out of cash grants. The heads of political parties, particularly those affiliated with the APC, were each given a cash award of N100,000, while the heads of political parties in the second category received N50,000 each, and the heads of political parties in the third category were granted N30,000 Naira each, bringing the total number of individuals who benefited to over 1,300.
Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada is serving as the Executive Secretary of the Almajirai and Out-of-School Children Commission. Gwani Yahuza Gwani Danzarga expressed gratitude on behalf of the community for having Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada in this role.
He emphasised that Sharada’s appointment was well-deserved and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute more value to the commission’s goals. He also said that he was looking forward to working with Sharada.
Benga from SMEDAN acknowledged the grants and scholarships offered by the Sharada Elders. At the same time, he recognised the significance of the financial support in promoting entrepreneurship and economic development among the younger generation.
It was demonstrated that a commitment to the fair and equitable distribution of resources was made through the distribution of the cash grants in batches.
The event was brought to a close with the presentation of a cheque in the amount of N50 million to Alqalam University and another cheque in the amount of N7 million to the Open University. These cheques served as a symbol of the commitment to investing in education and advocating for a more promising future for young people.
A concerted effort towards sustainable development and empowerment is demonstrated by the activities that are being carried out by the Sharada Elders. These activities include the provision of support to students and entrepreneurs.
The Elders of Sharada are leading the way for other communities to follow in their pursuit of advancement and prosperity by the example they are setting with their commitment to the advancement of education and economic opportunities.
The Sharada Elders, led by Head Sani A Sani, made the following honourable request in an effort to encourage long-term sustainability and give a voice to the younger generation. Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada is the brains behind a number of initiatives, many of which are geared towards encouraging entrepreneurship and education.
