Last week, Nine Security Officers, 53 Civilians Killed Across Nigeria

Non-state actors killed at least 62 individuals in Nigeria last week (February 20-26).

Nine security personnel were killed: four police officers, four civil defense employees, and one officer from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The other 53 people were civilians.

When compared to the previous week, when 49 individuals were killed, including three police officers, this figure represents an increase.

The deaths took place in eight separate instances across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. In the North-West, the region most affected by banditry and attacks by armed groups other than Boko Haram, there were no reported fatalities by non-state actors.

It was constructed from media accounts from the previous week’s happenings. As a result, unreported cases are excluded.

The following are the incidents that were recorded:

In Ebonyi, there’s one.
Gunmen shot and killed a National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agent in Ebonyi State, Nigeria’s southeast.

During an attack on an NDLEA squad on duty along the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway on Sunday morning, the operative was slain.

The incident apparently resulted in significant injuries to another officer of the organization.

Gunmen assassinated Gab Ofoma, the chairman/CEO of Ofoma Associates Limited, on November 21 in Anambra.

Mr Ofoma, a native of Umunnealam, Umudim, Nnewi, was shot and killed on his way back to his headquarters in Port Harcourt after visiting his hometown of Nnewi on Sunday.

The event took place at the Ukpor-Lilu-Orsumoghu-Azia-Mbosi Road, which connects the states of Anambra and Imo.

Suspected cultists also opened fire on mourners in Anambra, causing a funeral service to be disrupted.

The tragedy took place at Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area, and left 20 persons dead.

Imo, there are two.
On Monday, gunmen assaulted the Isu divisional police headquarters in Imo State, killing two officers.

The officials were killed as police officers on duty engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle while the gang launched IEDs inside the station.

Niger has ten people.
At Galadiman Kogo in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, four officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were killed by suspected Boko Haram militants.

During a previous night raid on Sunday, the terrorists killed six people of the town.

Osun has two.
Two people were confirmed dead during the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) ad hoc ward delegate congress conducted in Osun State on Wednesday.

Toib Mutallib, one of the victims, was killed by suspected political thugs who assaulted his ward in Agberire, a hamlet in the state’s Iwo Local Government Area, according to the police.

Gunmen assaulted four banks and a divisional police headquarters in Edo State, Nigeria’s south-central region, on Thursday, killing two police officers and five others.

Gunmen surrounded Uromi town in the state’s Esan Northeast Local Government Area.

In the early hours of Saturday, gunmen in Taraba State assassinated Levi Gbashi, an adviser to Governor Darius Ishaku, in Donga Local Government Area.

The incident occurred at Ityopaa Village as he and others were ready to leave the location of the village’s burial.

Armed gangs killed at least 18 individuals in separate attacks in Mashegu, Lavun, and Wushishi local government areas of Niger State, including a father and his kid.

Many people were displaced as a result of the attacks that took place on Friday and Saturday.
