LASG pledges support for LASU SDGs club

The recently launched Sustainable growth Goals Youth Club at Lagos State University has inspired confidence on the part of the Lagos State Government that it will spur growth outside of universities.

At the club’s inauguration and induction of some university students, the permanent secretary of the office of sustainable development goals and investment, Abosede George, stated that the club’s goal was to create a more inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous society in accordance with the T.H.E.M.E.S. PLUS Agenda of the governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.

George underlined the government’s intention to develop leaders who would carry the torch forward and build on the foundations set by the Sanwo-Olu administration for a sustainable future during his keynote presentation at the ceremony held at the school’s Ojo site.

According to George, the establishment of the Lagos State University SDGs Youth Club heralds a new era of active citizen participation and collaboration in advancing sustainable development both inside and outside of the university environment.

In her remarks, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, vice chancellor of LASU, thanked the Office of Sustainable Development Goals and Investment for the tremendous support the institution had received in the lead-up to the formation of LASU SDG Club and reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to the achievement of the goals through innovation, research, and creativity.

The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Mathias Schmale, had earlier noted in his goodwill message that Nigeria faced a number of significant challenges, including multifaceted poverty, flooding problems, terrorism, and banditry, and that one quick way to address these challenges was by utilizing the potential of the youth.
