Lagos Local Government elections: Voters with temporary identification cards are eligible to vote – LASIEC.

According to the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), voters with Temporary Voter Cards (TVCs) are eligible to vote in Saturday’s local government elections in the state.

LASIEC Chairman Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd.) stated this at a news conference held on Friday at the organization’s headquarters in Yaba, Lagos.

Phillips stated that voters with either Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) or Temporary Voter Cards (TVCs) would be permitted to vote throughout the state.

Additionally, she reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election.

“The voting process begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 3:00 p.m., with those still in the queue at 3:00 p.m. being attended to. Smart card readers, PVC, and TVC shall be used to conduct the election.

“Disabled voters will receive adequate assistance during the election process, while the elderly, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers will be given preference when casting their ballots.”

According to her, building public confidence and trust in the electoral process is the first step toward achieving a free, fair, and credible election.

She stated that this could only be accomplished with the active participation and collaboration of critical stakeholders.

Phillips stated that non-sensitive materials had been deployed as part of preparations, while sensitive materials would be distributed to all 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs on Friday night in the presence of security agencies.

The chairman, who noted that the election would feature 15 political parties, assured the electorate that adequate security for lives and property would be provided.

“The electorate and residents of Lagos are assured of adequate security following the exercise.

“Security of life and property is critical and will be prioritized prior to, during, and after the election.

“The commission is putting everything it has into ensuring a successful, free, fair, and credible election free of violence, intimidation, and harassment,” Phillips added.

She urged all stakeholders to educate, encourage, and mobilize voters to participate in the electoral process and freely express their political preferences.

Phillips stated that the commission had launched stakeholder sensitization campaigns in each of the state’s five divisions in an effort to stem the tide of voter apathy.

The commission, she stated, has completed the recruitment and training of all ad hoc staff for the poll.

According to POLITICS NIGERIA, security personnel in patrol vans and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) have been strategically stationed in and around the LASIEC office.

Vehicle movement has also been restricted in the vicinity of the LASIEC office at No 2 Birrel Avenue Sabo, Yaba, while the entire stretch of Lancaster Road, Sabo, Yaba, has been closed.
