Lagos Assembly starts screening Sanwo-Olu’s cabinet nominees

The screening of the cabinet nominees submitted to the Lagos State House of Assembly by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday, July 28 began on Sunday.

By the end of Monday, a House ad hoc committee formed for the task and engaged in an exercise that began on Sunday had screened 20 of the 39 applicants.

By Wednesday, when the process is anticipated to be completed, it is anticipated that all of the cabinet nominees will have been examined.

Afolabi Ayantayo, the recently-retired Special Adviser to the Governor on Parastatals Monitoring, Lawal Pedro, and Mobolaji Ogunlende were all examined on Sunday by a committee chaired by the Chief Whip of the House, Mojeed Fatai.

Sunday also featured Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, Olugbenga Olaniyi, Ogunwuyi Ekundayo, Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, Ibrahim Layode, and Adetokunbo Wahab, a former state senator from Badagry.

On Monday, the committee questioned Mrs. Adetoke Benson-Awoyinka, a recent Special Advisor to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Housing, and Mrs. Bola Lawal, a former Executive Secretary of Yaba Local Council Development Area.

Yakubu Alebiosu, Idris Aregbe, Abdul-Kabir Ogungbo, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih-Awokoya, Abiola Olowu, Dr. Adekunle Olayinka, Mosopefolu George, and Aramide Adeyoye were among the other actors tested on Monday.

Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the House, has formed the 12-person ad hoc committee for the activity.

The Chief Whip made a point to the MPs that the duty at hand was in accordance with a provision of the 1999 Constitution as the screening got underway.

“The responsibility for screening and approving candidates for the positions of commissioners and Special Advisers rests with the House of Assembly.

He stated that the Executive Governor of Lagos State had submitted 39 names for commissioners and special advisers on July 28, 2023, and that the House will receive the committee’s recommendation.

Adedamola Kasumu, Ajomale Oladipo, Saheed Babafemi, Nureni Akinsanya, and Ajani Owolabi are all on the screening committee.

Sa’ad Olumo, Sanni Okanlawon, Adewale Temitope, Ajayi Oladele, Abdulkareem Jubril, and Orekoya Abiodun are some of the others.
