A 15-year-old student of Government Secondary School, Omu Aran, Kwara State, Olukayode Olusola, scored 95 marks in Mathematics in the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Olusola scored a total of 362 marks in the examination, making him one of the top contenders for the highest scores in the examination, according to the Vanguard’s report.
Olusola, who scored 95 marks each in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and 77 in English Language, hopes to study Electrical Electronics at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
His outstanding performance is despite the poor performance of candidates in the exam in which 1.4 million scored less than 200 marks out of 400.
Reacting to the achievement, his mother, Beatrice Tosin, praised Olusola’s studious and hard-working nature.
Tosin also gave all the honour to God.
On Monday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board released the results of the 2024 UTME examination.
The examination board noted that 77 per cent of the 1,842,464 candidates whose 2024 UTME results were released scored less than 200.
However, the Registrar of the JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede said the examination body would not announce the names of the highest-scoring candidates to avoid “a repeat of the Mmesoma saga.”
