Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, has voiced his displeasure with what he called the acts of “a few individuals claiming to be Northern leaders” who influence the choice of candidates, particularly for the president, in the name of representing the area.
According to the former governor, such acts polarize the populace, undermine democracy, and—above all—lead to the election of unfit leaders.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Kwankwaso stated that these so-called leaders should be cautioned by the lessons learned from previous elections to avoid meddling in the election process and forcing their will on the populace.

He stressed that Northern elders, especially those from the Northwest, should not show preference while choosing candidates.
Recall that a while back, the former governor denied reports that he had reached a deal with former Labour Party presidential aspirants Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, implying that each would hold office for a set period of time.
