Three students who built a sport utility vehicle at an exhibition have been given full scholarships by the management of the Korea-Nigeria Friendship Institute of Vocational and Advanced Technology, Lokoja.

Students at St. Peter’s College in Idah who recently took their Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations are the recipients of the scholarships, according to The News Agency of Nigeria.

The students, Samson Emeje, 29, Yusuf Ayuba, 20, and Tenimu Abubakar, 18, created and displayed an electrically-powered tricycle and SUV at the STETSCOM Science Exhibition in 2021 and 2022.

Williams Charles, the institute’s rector, gave the students their admission letters on Wednesday and noted that they had demonstrated exceptional technical aptitude and merited support in developing their skills so they could benefit society.

According to Charles, the institute has received international recognition for its manpower development programmes that support the advancement of science and technology and the growth and development of the state.

He claimed that the achievement demonstrated by the students at the 2021 and 2022 STETSCOM Science Exhibition by creating an electrically powered tricycle and SUV inspired the institute’s management to take action.

The rector commended the students for demonstrating their inventiveness by utilising locally sourced materials, emphasising that those with creative minds were unique humans for their capacity to put ideas on paper and translate them into reality.

In addition to praising Gov. Yahaya Bello for his unwavering dedication to the institution, he made a plea for more assistance in order to meet the requirements of the upcoming resource inspection by the National Board for Technical Education.

In order to give the three students the chance to enrol in the institute’s life transformation courses, Charles urged politicians, corporate organisations, and the government to focus their attention on young people with natural talents like them.

Speaking on behalf of his peers, one of the recipients, Emeje, thanked the rector for the kind gesture and said that attending the institute was a fulfilment of a lifelong dream.

Emeje, who credited God with the talent, claimed that his childhood served as the source of inspiration and that he frequently created such innovations with ease.

He thanked the NKFI management for the scholarships and for enabling them to pursue their dreams.

In response, the college’s principal, Mr. Zakari Jonah, praised the scholarship recipient and pledged to encourage secondary school students to attend the college in order to further their academic goals.

Jonah pleaded with all levels of government to reach out to the people to identify their talents and help them grow through technical and vocational education so that they could become independent.
