In Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states, there are governorship elections on November 11; according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, over 5.4 million voters have registered to vote.

A statement was released on Tuesday by Sam Olumekun, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the committee responsible for voter education and information.

The commission examined plans for the off-cycle governorship elections in the states of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi during its regular meeting today, Tuesday, October 10, 2023, among other things.

In total, there are 5,409,438 registered voters for the three states, according to Olumekun: 1,056 862 in Bayelsa State, 2,419,922 in Imo State, and 1,932,654 in Kogi State. These numbers are for the next elections.

Soft copies of every state’s entire voter registration list, he claimed, would be given to the political parties running for office.

With emphasis, he continued, “All eighteen political parties in Kogi State, seventeen in Imo State, and sixteen in Bayelsa State are supporting candidates.

The event, which will take place on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Collation Centers in the state headquarters of the commission in Lokoja, Owerri, and Yenagoa, is open to state chairmen of political parties or their designated representatives.

In addition, Olumekun said that the commission had completed the arrangements for the mock accreditation of voters in the three states to test-run the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and upload polling unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal, furthering INEC’s commitment to deepening the deployment of technology for voter accreditation and result management.

From 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, the exercise will happen concurrently in all three states.

Our website and social media channels already have the list of each state’s assigned polling places.

To guarantee the smooth deployment of the BVAS and IReV on election day, the exercise’s lessons learned will be taken into account. This is not the election itself; rather, it is merely a practice run.

He urged registered voters in the chosen polling places to show up for the exercise with their Permanent Voters Cards, repeating the commission’s call.

Also, he disclosed that 119 domestic and 8 foreign observers had been authorized by INEC for the governorship elections scheduled for November 11.
