Sagir Hamidu, a former gubernatorial aspirant in Zamfara State’s 2019 election, was killed by bandits on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

The late politician ran for governor on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and was the owner of FAMAKS British Schools in Abuja and Kaduna.

Around 4 p.m. on Sunday, the attackers opened fire on travelers near Rijana on the busy expressway, killing him.

We received confirmation of his death from security sources who requested anonymity, stating that “he was among those hit by the kidnappers bullets.”

Many passengers who attempted to flee were shot at, according to sources, while those who cooperated were herded into the bush.

The incident happened in the Rijana area, according to a survivor who did not want to be identified.

“The kidnappers took advantage of the road damage,” he said, “which forced on-coming and off-coming motorists to move slowly on a single lane.”
