By imposing a state of emergency in Rivers State, veteran Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo has charged President Bola Tinubu with usurping the state’s authority.
“The declaration of state of emergency by Tinubu, which led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly, has caused Rivers State to enter a constitutional crisis due to the suspension of its legislative and executive branches,” Okonkwo continued.
Tinubu is attempting to establish a same political base in Rivers State as he did in Lagos State, according to Okonkwo.
In order to prevent chaos in the oil-rich state, he asserted that President Tinubu should lift the suspension in Rivers State immediately.
According to the leader of the Labour Party, the state has two choices given the current state of affairs: either it will respect the Constitution and the will of the people or it will give in to impunity.
The submission was reportedly made by Okonkwo on Sunday through a post on his 𝕏 account.
“It is evident that Rivers State has been thrown into a constitutional crisis as a result of the federal suspension of its legislative and executive branches,” he said.

It desecrates our federal system and jeopardizes democratic government by blatantly usurping state authority through the unlawful declaration of a fictitious state of emergency.
“Nigerians and everyone who supports democracy must take serious action. Rivers State is forced to choose between upholding the Constitution and the people’s will or giving in to impunity.
The decision is up to us, and the stakes are extremely high because the goal of the entire plan is to eventually convert Nigeria to Tinubu’s familitocratic government model, which is modeled after Lagos.
“In order to prevent chaos, the elected representatives of Rivers State should be lifted from their suspension immediately.”
