Kebbi sacks district head, suspends one other

The Kebbi State Government has terminated the appointment of the District Head of Sauwa, Muhammad-Sauwa and placed a six-month suspension on the District Head of Guluma, Muhammad Bashir-Guluma.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Mansir Shehu and made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, on Saturday.

He said that the termination and suspension of the two district heads were in line with the Public Services Rule 030301(0) which centrered around serious acts of misconduct.

He said, “The termination and suspension of the two district heads of Sauwa and Guluma in Arugungu Local Government is as a result of a committee’s report constituted to investigate them.

“After the committee’s investigation, they were found guilty. Meanwhile, the termination and suspension took effect from 29th February 2024.”

Shehu explained that on January 31, 2024, a committee of inquiry was set up to investigate the allegations presented by the Arugungu LG council.

This, according to him, necessitated the establishment of the committee which swung into action immediately, adding that their report shows that the two affected district heads were found guilty.

He said that the district head of Sauwa was found with consistent acts of insubordination, while that of Guluma was only found with a mild insubordination and his salary would be on hold for six months.

“For the District Head of Guluma, Alhaji Muhammad Bashar-Guluma, the commission considered and approved a lesser penalty of six months suspension and stopped his salary for six months for an act of insubordination as the committee found him guilty of committing,”  he added.
