The Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has once more seized 371 parcels of Cannabis sativa, also known as Indian hemp, and 98 packs of diazepam as part of its efforts to sanitize drug use.
In addition to the items listed above, the command also seized 10 sacks of snuff, 1080 pieces of donkey skin, 37 bags of foreign rice, 16 bales of used clothing, 300 liters of petroleum motor spirits, and a Toyota Corolla car.
Dr. Ben Oramalugo, the commander of the Nigerian Customs Service’s Kebbi State command, estimated the value of the drugs seized at just 94,000,000, 850,000, 4,400, 409 naira when he handed them over to Usman Suleiman, the state commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
He said, “Recall that ten days ago, precisely on August 14, 2023, during our last press briefing, we made a vow that moving forward, there would be no breathing space for smugglers in Kebbi command, especially those who smuggle drugs and other items detrimental to our health and the country’s economy.
Having credible information about their upcoming activities, we instructed our officers to increase surveillance in all the state’s hidden corners in order to achieve this goal.
One hundred sixty-four million, eight hundred and fifteen thousand, six hundred and twenty-nine naira, or “the duty paid value of the seized items,” is the total amount of money.
The CAC earlier expressed sympathy to the families of his two employees who died on Thursday along the Bunza-Koko-Dakingari road.
Although regrettable, this sad incident won’t stop us or lower the spirits of the command’s officers and men.
To end the state’s drug smuggling problem, “we will continue to step up our efforts and work in tandem with all the necessary agencies.”
