Kano: Kwankwasiyya Loses Long-Serving Member to Gandujiyya

On Thursday in Kano, the Kwankwasiyya Political Movement suffered yet another setback when it lost one of its staunch chieftains to the Gandujiyya Political Ideologue.

The decampee, Alhaji Baba, a Kano Municipal lawmaker, disembarked from the Kwankwasiyya Political train when, during the formal launch/flag-off of the agricultural intervention programme, he knelt before Ganduje and removed the symbolic Kwankwasiyya red cap.

Alhaji Baba’s red cap was replaced with a green cap after symbolic “political cleansing” at the event, where Ganduje empowered about 16, 010 farmers.

Alhaji Baba, the current chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, was a former chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government Area during Senator Ibrahim Shekarau’s (Sardaunan Kano) tenure as Governor of the state.
The Kwankwasiyya, a powerful political platform fighting for the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano, is led by its Supreme Commander and Kano state’s immediate past governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

While the Gandujiyya, Kano’s face of the All Progressive Congress (APC), is led by the sitting Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was a founding member of the Kwankwasiyya.

Ganduje was Kwankwaso’s deputy for two terms when he was governor.
The duo split up politically in 2015, allegedly due to Kwankwaso’s insistence on controlling Ganduje’s government even after he left office as Kano state’s first citizen.
However, Ganduje has taken control of Kano’s political landscape since then, even after winning a second term in 2019 despite strong cum confrontational opposition from the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Pundits believe that as the race for the 2023 presidential election approaches, the two political platforms will experience a heavy earthquake, necessitating a slew of spectacular cross-carpeting.
