After a bloody battle with bandits, soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, Lokoja, successfully freed two abducted victims and found a N3.8 million ransom meant for their release.

Brigade Spokesperson Lt. Hassan Abdullahi said in a statement on Monday that the rescue operation happened on Sunday in Achigili Forest along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule road.

On November 2, soldiers stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Oguma got reliable information about a planned ransom drop, which sparked the start of the operation. In response to the information, a patrol was quickly dispatched to the woodland in order to apprehend the perpetrators.

The bandits opened fire on the soldiers while they were traveling. With superior power, the soldiers engaged the criminals by firing back. As a result, the kidnappers were forced to run into the bush with gunshot wounds, abandoning the two victims—a male and a female—as well as the money.

The victims who had been saved were debriefed right away and placed in secure custody. They were successfully given back the N3.8 million that was retrieved.

Lt. Abdullahi urged the people to keep supplying timely and reliable information to support security operations against criminal elements in the state and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unflinching dedication to defend lives and property.
