The recently appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas, is currently meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Hours after Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to a political conflict involving former Governor Nyesom Wike and the state’s governor, Siminalayi Fubara, the meeting took place at 12:50 pm.
President Tinubu said in his nationwide speech on Tuesday that Ibas would be the administrator in charge of Rivers State after Governor Siminalayi Fubara was suspended for a six-month first term.
In addition to Fubara, all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu were suspended as part of the constitutional actions implemented to resolve the political unrest in the state.
In his statement, Tinubu said, “I thus designate Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to oversee the state’s operations in the best interests of Rivers State’s excellent citizens in the interim. For the sake of clarity, Rivers State’s judiciary is unaffected by this statement and will continue to operate in line with its constitutional mission.

“The Administrator won’t enact any new legislation. Although he will have the freedom to create any regulations he deems essential to carry out his duties, the Federal Executive Council must review and approve them before the President can promulgate them for the state.
