Journalist caught masturbating during an official Zoom call fired

A 60-year-old writer and pundit Jeffrey Toobin has been fired for masturbating during an official zoom call.

Jeffrey Toobin, who graduated from Harvard law, works as a legal analyst for the New Yorker and CNN.

Toobin has apologised for his actions, describing it as “embarrassingly stupid”, adding that he was unaware that his colleagues could see and hear him.

“I made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, believing I was off-camera. I apologize to my wife, family, friends and co-workers… I thought I had muted the Zoom video.”

The New Yorker placed Toobin on suspension following the incident last month. While CNN issued a statement saying Toobin “has asked for some time off while he deals with a personal issue, which we have granted”.

On Wednesday, November 11, Toobin issued a statement saying the New Yorker has fired him.

“I was fired today by @NewYorker after 27 years as a Staff Writer. I will always love the magazine, will miss my colleagues, and will look forward to reading their work.”
