Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed sorrow over Pope Francis’ passing.
Jonathan reportedly characterized the late pope of the Catholic Church and diocese of Rome as a peacemaker.
Jonathan noted in his Tuesday condolence tribute that Pope Francis, who will be buried on Saturday, dedicated his life to religion and service.
“My sincere sympathies are extended to the Nigerian Catholic Church and the global Christian community on the loss of His Holiness Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic Church.
Pope Francis was a religious figure who had an influence on many aspects of human life outside of the pulpit. He was a global champion for equality, justice, and peace. A day after delivering his Easter sermon, Pope Francis passed away, demonstrating his unwavering devotion to both service and faith. Despite his difficult times, he never wavered from his faith or his mission to spread love, justice, and peace throughout the world.
“May we all be inspired by his life of faith, devotion, and service to God as we consider the void left by his departure,” he said.
