River State’s troubled governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has stated that he has done nothing to merit the state House of Assembly impeaching him.

Shortly after the House members assembled to start the impeachment process against him, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, Fubara made this statement on Monday while speaking to his supporters at the Assembly Complex.

At the Assembly Complex, the governor addressed his supporters, saying, “Let them come out and tell Rivers people the offence I have committed to warrant any impeachment.”

“I want to reassure the people of Rivers that I will keep working to make sure you reap the benefits of democracy,” he continued. I will address the media at the appropriate moment.
After assuring the state’s citizens that they would reap the benefits of democracy, the governor promised to address the issue when it was suitable.

It had previously stated that on Monday, while some lawmakers were gathered to start the impeachment process of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, there were gunshots and the release of tear gas inside the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.

The MPs also suspended several of their colleagues who they thought to be governor’s allies, including Edison Ehie, the head of the House.
The event transpired several hours following the Assembly Complex fire that started on Sunday evening.
