The recruitment of 20 vigilantes to be strategically stationed in various off-campus sites is a significant move that Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has taken in the fight against insecurity.

In an interview with news reporters, NSUK’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Modibbo, said that the institution is committed to reducing the threat of kidnapping and guaranteeing the security of both employees and students.

“The institution’s management is concerned about kidnapping, despite the fact that we are aware it is a nationwide issue.

Because we collaborate with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, we don’t have many issues for those who are on campus.
“For those who live off campus, we have authorized the hiring of 20 vigilantes who will receive strategic training to carry out their duties in all the nooks and crannys of the several off-campus areas. One of the steps we are doing to guarantee the safety of the faculty and students is this, stated Modibo.

Recently, some of the institution’s teachers and students were kidnapped; the kidnappers only released them after being paid ransom.
A few days ago, when her kidnappers received an undisclosed sum of money, Dr. Monica Adokwe, a lecturer at the university’s Faculty of Administration, was set free.
