The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that the commission’s ongoing online Continuous Voter Registration exercise has attracted over two million (2m) new registrants.

In a statement signed on Monday, Festus Okoye, the INEC national commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, stated that the number of new registrants has surpassed two million since the online registration portal was launched on June 28, 2021.

“As of 7 a.m. today, Monday, August 23, 2021, the number of new registrants is 2,215,832,” Okoye said.
The commission also stated that the ongoing physical exercise, which is now in its fourth week, has captured approximately 430,368 people.

The Commission’s website and social media platforms have been updated to include a detailed breakdown of the online and completed registrations by state/FCT, age, gender, occupation, and disability.

“Once again, the Commission urges all eligible citizens who have not yet registered to take advantage of this opportunity.

The Commission would like to emphasize that those who have already registered as voters do not need to do so again. Those who wish to transfer to another location to vote in future elections or who have issues with their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) may apply for resolution online or in person.” INEC made a point.
