The governorship and house of assembly elections scheduled for this Saturday in 10 polling places in the state’s Victoria Garden City, Lekki region have been postponed by the independent national electoral commission.
Segun Agbaje, the Lagos State resident electoral commissioner for INEC, made this statement to reporters on Saturday at the VGC.
Because they claimed to have been held hostage during the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections, Agbaje claimed that members of the National Youth Service Corps who had been stationed in the area as ad hoc staff were reluctant to enter the VGC estate.

Agbaje claimed that the ad hoc staff had instead set up voting materials outside the estate, but the residents claimed that they were unable to vote because they did not feel secure and were worried about hoodlums invading and interfering with the election.
He claimed that the current security personnel were unable to handle the situation, so he and his team had to go to the location.
There are 6,024 registered voters in our eight polling units, and 5,624 of them have their PVCs, according to Agbaje.
Two additional polling places at the estate’s main gate were also compromised, he continued.
There are two outside and eight here (in the estate).
“We will reconvene here at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow (Sunday), following proper consultation and further instruction from the national headquarters, to conduct the elections.”

Agbaje also mentioned that the commission had received guarantees for the security of its employees and voters from the estate’s chairman of the security committee.
