INEC declares Inuwa Yahaya winner of the Gombe governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya the winner of Saturday’s governorship election.

Prof. Maimuna Waziri, vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Gashua in Yobe, declared the results in Gombe on Sunday.

According to Mr Waziri, Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress, APC received 342, 821 votes to defeat his closest rival Jibrin Barde of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who received 233,131 votes.

Khamisu Mailantarki of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, received 19,861 votes, while Keftin Amuga of the Labour Party received 1,753.

Mr Waziri stated that there were 1,575,794 registered voters, 618,231 accredited voters, and 605,355 valid votes cast, with 11,390 votes rejected and 616,745 total votes cast.

Mr Yahaya won in nine of the state’s eleven Local Government Areas (LGAs), with the APC outperforming the PDP by 109,690 votes.
