In Southern Kaduna, bandits murder 30, raze houses

In yet another attack by bandits on Runji Village in Kaduna State’s Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, no less than 30 people have been killed and a number of homes have been destroyed.

Only three days had passed since robbers murdered eight people in the Atak’Njei community, which is located in the state’s Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, at around 10 p.m. on Saturday.

It was learned from sources in the affected area that although local guards on duty were able to confront the invaders, it took the quick action of military personnel to put an end to the attacks.

The military’s quick action, according to the locals, saved the community from being completely wiped out by the attackers.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai denounced the attack that resulted in the deaths of several people, according to Samuel Aruwan, commissioner for internal security and home affairs for Kaduna State, who confirmed the incident.

In an attack that occurred on Saturday night in Runji village, Zangon Kataf LGA, the military informed the Kaduna State Government, according to Aruwan.The preliminary report also informed the government that a number of locals were hurt by the attack, and a number of houses in the neighbourhood were destroyed by fire.

“According to the report, troops engaged the attackers in a fierce engagement and are still in the general area.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who received the preliminary report in the wee hours of Sunday, has denounced the killings as unacceptable and unjustifiable while awaiting the release of a more thorough report.

“The Governor expressed his condolences to the families who lost loved ones and prayed for the victims’ souls to find peace. He prayed for the injured to get well quickly as well.

As soon as comprehensive reports from the security agencies are received, the Kaduna State Government will inform the public about the incident, according to Aruwan.

Sam Timbuwak Achie, the national president of the Atyap Community Development Association (ACDA), confirmed that some of the bandits were killed by soldiers and some vigilantes who quickly arrived at the scene and engaged the criminals in a gun battle. He added that the number of casualties would have been higher if it weren’t for the soldiers’ intervention.
