Five people were killed by a sandstorm at Yanlami village in Bichi Local Government Area, according to the Kano State Fire Service.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning, according to a statement issued to newsmen by the fire service’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Sunday in Kano.

“We received a distress call from the Bichi Fire Station, reporting that a puddle trench had engulfed five people.” ‘Around 11:05 a.m., we dispatched our rescue team to the scene,” Abdullahi said in the statement.
Alasan Abdulhamid, 22, Jafaru Abdulwahabu, 30, Jibrin Musa, 30, Masaudu Nasiru, 25, and Muhammad Sulaiman, 35, are among the victims, according to him.
“The victims were trapped while digging a puddle trench for sand to assist a friend who was about to marry with the construction of a house. According to Abdullahi, “part of the sand collapsed and covered them, and they died as a result.”

The bodies were handed over to the police and the village chief of Yanlami, he said.
