Abubakar Sani Bello, the governor of Niger State, denied reports that he had taken over the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker and Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee on Monday (CECPC).

Bello said he presided over the meetings in an acting capacity, speaking to journalists at the end of the caretaker committee’s meeting on Monday in Abuja.

All members of the APC caretaker committee, including the secretary, John Akpanudoedehe, the women’s representative, Mrs. Stella Okotete, the youth leader, Mr. Ismail Ahmed, Mr. David Lyon, Prof. Tahir Mamman, Senator Ali Abba, Senator Ken Nnamani, and Senator Yusuf Yusuf, were present at the meeting.

According to the governor, he met with APC state chairmen and swore in some newly elected state executives.
“Today, the States Chairmen took their oaths of office, and we discussed the progress made thus far on the upcoming National Convention, as well as what needs to be done next to meet the convention’s March 26 deadline,” he said.

“Since the chairman (Mai Mala Buni) went on vacation, I’ve been acting.”

President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly sanctioned Buni’s removal as APC chairman before he traveled to the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up, according to reports in the media.
