With airstrikes from A-29 Super Tucanos along the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno State, the Nigerian military has killed many fighters of the Islamic State-backed Boko Haram faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jam’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihd.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) component of Operation Hadin Kai launched a series of attacks on ISWAP camps in the state’s Marte Local Government Area.

After intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions revealed the terror kingpin’s location, the operation was carried out.
The ground assessment of the air interdiction sites revealed that a large number of terrorists were killed in the process.
ISWAP has been consolidating its grip in areas around Lake Chad since the death of JAS leader Abubakar Shekau.

Wali Sani Shuwaram, a 45-year-old, was named the new Leader (Wali) of ISWAP in Lake Chad in 2021.
Hundreds of Boko Haram fighters have defected to Shekau, increasing the sect’s membership.
The terror group has killed over 100,000 people and displaced millions of people, mostly in the states of Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe.
