Imo People Deserve Competence, Not Waste – PDP Faults Uzodinma’s N2.1 Billion Hajj Spending

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denounced the Hope Uzodimma-led government’s decision to spend an astounding ₦2.1 billion on Muslim pilgrimages and throw a party to celebrate the pilgrims’ airlift.
In regard to the airlift of the pilgrims, the party contended that there is no reason why the administration should spend taxpayer funds on a program that serves just 315 people and throw a lavish celebration to welcome Vice President Kashim Shettima.
In a statement released in Owerri by its spokesperson, Lancelot Obiaku, the PDP called the gesture a waste of money, particularly in light of the nation’s escalating security threats and economic suffering brought on by the country’s skyrocketing inflation rate.

He bemoaned the fact that it was particularly alarming and unsettling because it happened the day after armed attackers besieged the settlements of Umuna and Okigwe in Onuimo LGA, murdering at least 20 people, kidnapping others, and burning more than 22 vehicles.

He insisted that Uzodimma retire after accusing him of egregious ineptitude.

“We vehemently condemn the fact that Governor Uzodimma frequently acts as though he is not an Imolite, consistently reluctant to offer leadership or express empathy over the harrowing challenges of insecurity, poverty, and lack of basic amenities confronting the people of Imo State,” the statement says in part.

“Normally, the threat of suspected Fulani terrorists in NgorOkpala would have prompted the governor to act quickly, since the ruthless outlaws have made the area their stronghold.

In Okigwe, Orsu, Njaba, Onuimo, Oru West, and Orlu LGAs, criminal groups have taken over communities and are still terrorizing innocent inhabitants. This adds to the sad stories coming out of these areas.

“Imo cannot put up with a distant administration that doesn’t care about the suffering of its people and an inept governor. Therefore, the Imo PDP urges Ndi Imo to band together in order to hold this administration completely responsible at this crucial juncture in the history of our state.
