In advance of the 2027 general elections, Peter Obi, a well-known member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has announced his intention to run for the party’s presidential ticket.
Speaking to supporters at a campaign event for the ADC candidates in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Area Council elections, which were held at the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, he disclosed this goal.
Obi stated in his speech that he would not accept a secondary role in the party’s long-term political strategy and that he is aiming for the top spot.
He highlighted that the AMAC race is directly related to his bigger political objectives and urged on party loyalists and local inhabitants to cast their weight behind the ADC candidate.
Obi stated that his participation in the upcoming elections is as a leading candidate rather than a supporting one and that winning the AMAC poll would be essential to furthering his political goals.
“This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. We need your help to succeed in AMAC. I’m participating in the upcoming election and running for first place. When I return, you’ll see. “You can be sure,” Obi remarked.
Obi’s fans, particularly members of the Obidient Movement, have escalated pressure on the ADC leadership to adopt him as the party’s standard-bearer for 2027, with many demanding that the ticket should go to Obi alone.
Rotimi Amaechi, a former minister of transportation, and Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, are among the other prominent figures with presidential aspirations that the ADC is hosting.
