I’m Going After Ezekwesili – Senator Nwaebonyi

Former Minister Obiageli Ezekwesili will be reported to the Igbo traditional leadership by Senate Deputy Chief Whip Onyekachi Nwaebonyi.
The Senate Committee on Ethics, which was established to consider the sexual harassment claim made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, reportedly saw a confrontation between Senator Onyekachi and former Education Minister Ezekwesili.

Onyekachi claimed in an interview with AIT on Monday that Ezekwesili had called him a thug. According to the senator from Ebonyi North, he has supported women’s rights and empowerment because he respects them.

“As a person, I can’t talk to my wife like that in public,” he stated. I can’t have that conversation with my driver in public. I will never be able to speak to a woman in that manner again. Never in my life have I done it. Women are respected by me. I am among those who have been advocating for women’s rights and benefits.

As a lawyer, I have won numerous cases for women who were not allowed to inherit their father’s assets because their father did not have any male children. I’ve won a lot of pro bono cases. There are facts. You will see these if you visit Ebonyi State. I am one of the South East leaders involved in a program that builds homes for widows and sponsors their children’s education. I’ve got more than 300 of them. All of these are meant to convey my love, respect, and esteem for women.

However, for a woman to publicly order me to stop talking and label me a hooligan, a red-cap chief in Igbo land who has left their imprint, made a contribution, and run for office, is unacceptable. Someone who has never been elected to a ward councilor has came to my office, told me to stop talking, and called me a hooligan, despite the fact that I have a vote of more than 500 people to be in the Senate. This is not acceptable. And because it never happened, I’m going to bring that up with the traditional Igbo leadership.
