Enugu Rangers coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, says his team is building up the momentum in their quest to land their first Nigeria Premier Football League title in eight years, According Sports Extra reports.
Rangers boosted their chances of winning an eighth NPFL title when they edged Heartland 2-1 in an Oriental derby last Sunday.
The Flying Antelopes opened scoring in the 37th minute through Ifeanyi Onyekachi’s header off a Kelechi Nweke corner kick before the latter fired in from 25 yards out to double their lead.
Heartland halved the deficit in the 90th minute through Chukwuebuka Ogbonna but it was only a consolation as Ilechukwu’s side extended their unbeaten run in the league to nine games.
“It was a great game between two great sides and I am very glad that we ended the game on the winning side,” Ilechukwu said.
“We worked very hard to earn this victory and I thank God for it and hopefully, we shall keep the momentum to push higher in the league and maintain that fight till we achieve our aim of winning the title.”
They currently lead the table with 48 points from 27 matches.
Rangers who last won the NPFL title in 2016 — their seventh in history — will host Sunshine Stars in their next match on Sunday.
