IG sends DIG and ACPs to new departments, formations

On Thursday, Olukayode Egbetokun, the acting inspector general of police, gave his approval to the Nigeria Police Force’s Force Intelligence Department, which had previously been the Force Intelligence Bureau.

In order to strengthen internal security measures and better address current issues, the police high command declared that this development will reinforce ongoing efforts to strengthen and upgrade the NPF’s intelligence capabilities.

The IG also authorized the nomination of Habu Sani, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, to the position of Force Intelligence Department Head.

In a statement released by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, Egbetokun stated, “DIG Habu Sani, a Geography graduate from Usman Danfodiyo University, was assigned as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992. He has taken a number of specialized and tactical courses, such as Intermediate Command, Advanced Criminal Intelligence Analyst, Advanced Intelligence Processing, Technical Intelligence Management Methodology, False Document and Border Police Technique Courses.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Technical Intelligence Unit, AIG in charge of the Force Intelligence Bureau, and DIG Habu Sani have all held operational, investigative, and administrative positions within the Nigeria Police Force. Before his recent elevation, he served as the Police Force Secretary’s Assistant Inspector-General.

At the same time, the IG authorized the national appointment of Assistant Commissioners of Police to lead State Intelligence Departments and Zonal Intelligence Departments.

He stated that his administration hopes to provide the SIDs with leadership that combines operational expertise, strategic thought, and a strong commitment to upholding law and order by giving ACPs the duty of leading SIDs.

He said the action is anticipated to lead to better intelligence operations, more effective crime prevention, and an overall raising of law enforcement standards.

In a similar spirit, an academic delegation from Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, including the founder, Abdulraheem Oladimeji, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Noah Yusuf, and other officials, recently paid a polite visit to the IG at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

“They stated the intention to collaborate with the Nigeria Police College of Intelligence in Kwara State, which is a hub for training and research in disciplines related to intelligence,” continued Adejobi. For those taking the Senior Command Courses at the Police Staff College, Jos, they also offered to offer unique degree-granting courses.

“The IGP expressed his determination for the college to immediately begin activities, with the goal of boosting the NPF’s intelligence capacity and nurturing a new generation of intelligence professionals, while directing the DIG in charge of Training and Development to interface with them toward developing a memorandum of understanding.”
