Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, has been summoned by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts to explain the payment of N1.93 billion to contractors for charter services.
This was based on the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation’s 2019 audit query report.

The committee said the report showed that the defunct NNPC, now NNPC Limited, allegedly spent the funds on 17 charter services without payment vouchers or other supporting documents, during its investigative hearing over the weekend.
It also said there was no evidence of vessels trans-shipment of products, clearance certificates from inspection agencies to show that the payments were valid and charged against public funds.
The AuGF report said the NNPC had a weak internal control system that could have enabled illegal payments or payments for services not rendered.
