Fuel subsidies: Driving car becoming luxury in Lagos – Rhodes-Vivour

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a Labour Party candidate for governor in Lagos state, claimed that car travel has turned into a luxury in Lagos due to the increase in fuel prices brought on by the loss of fuel subsidies.

Using his verified Twitter account, Rhodes-Vivour stated this on Saturday.

“Fuel prices have turned automotive transportation into a luxury in Lagos,” he said. However, this administration and its party have had 23 years to construct a seamless network of rivers and rail lines for mass transit. But THEY CONTINUE TO FAIL THE PEOPLE YEAR AFTER YEAR.

Imagine if people were able to use the BLUE LINE, which this administration formally “commissioned” in January. It is depressing to see neighbours rationalise and offer explanations for the pain Lagos residents endure despite the theft of funds that could have been used to upgrade the state’s infrastructure.

“The APC should put effort into growth, wealth, and uplift. Instead, it’s “Grab it, snatch it, and run with it,” in their eyes.

Recall that the National Executive Council (NEC) decided on palliative measures for Nigerians during a meeting on Thursday.

Governors from the 36 states that make up the Federation were present at the Vice President Kashim Shettima-led NEC meeting, and it was decided that cash transfers would be handled through state social registers rather than the federal social registers, subject to state-specific requirements.

In order to lessen the impact of the loss of fuel subsidies on Nigerians, President Bola Tinubu recommended transferring N8,000 to 12 million low-income households in Nigeria for a period of six months.

The President said that the transfer of funds to low-income households would benefit an additional 60 million people.

According to President Tinubu, households will receive the funds via digital transfer.
