The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has made a new commitment to putting a stop to the political cycle of violence in the state.

After receiving the State Commission of Inquiry’s report on the destruction of local government secretariats on Tuesday, the governor made the commitment.

No matter who is involved, Governor Fubara promised to put its recommendations into effect.

The governor made this pledge when Justice Ibiwengi Minakiri, the commission’s chairman, presented the findings to the Executive Chambers of Government House in Port Harcourt. He emphasized the need to put an end to what he called “unreasonable violence in politics,” saying that politics should be a combat of ideas rather than a lifelong friendship or enemy.

Notwithstanding efforts to thwart their work, such as legal challenges and other types of hindrance, the governor praised the panel for their perseverance in finishing the assignment.

In the meantime, Justice Ibiwengi Minakiri, the chairman of the seven-member commission, explained the process by which the report was put together. She stated that the verification of claims from submitted memoranda was greatly aided by visits to the impacted local government districts of Khana, Eleme, Ikwerre, Emohua, and Obio/Akpor.

Justice Minakiri claims that the commission’s work uncovered information that had been concealed concerning the state and was completed on November 28—within the 30-day period that the governor had set. The report, which is divided into four volumes, contains findings, exhibits, memoranda, and proceedings records.

In order to guarantee enduring peace in the state, Justice Minakiri asked Governor Fubara to put the suggestions into effect. She also disclosed that several of the people named in the memos did not show up to defend themselves before the commission.
