In the early hours of Friday, a woman and her two children were kidnapped by gunmen suspected of being bandits in Kogi State’s Yagba West Local Government Area.
According to reports, the attack took place in Bareke, Egbe community, near the home of Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, at around two in the morning.
The mother and two of her children were abducted from their home at around two in the morning on this Friday, while her husband managed to flee with injuries. A source told SaharaReporters, “It happened very close to the house of the current Kogi West Senator, Sunday Karimi, in Egbe.”
It was discovered that the woman’s husband was hurt during the raid while attempting to escape.
Residents say the entire town is on edge and the family is traumatized as a result of the incident.
Less than twenty-four hours had passed after another attack in Ejiba, also in Yagba West, when the Friday kidnapping occurred.
A commercial bus was reportedly assaulted by criminals on Thursday, resulting in the abduction of every passenger.
The incident resulted in the death of a biker who was only recognized by his serial number, 256. Earlier in the week, Yagba West saw another wave of attacks.
Gunmen raided Bethel Farm in Ejiba on Wednesday, October 1, and took three persons hostage.
One of the employees was shot by the robbers during their attack on a bread distributor along the Ejiba–Odo-Eri route the same day. A burned motorcycle that was thought to be the property of local vigilante agents who faced the bandits was later shown in photographs.
Numerous people have been displaced as a result of the attacks. Following people’ flight for safety, SaharaReporters published a video of the Okunran settlement in Yagba West on September 26, 2025, which featured vacant streets and abandoned dwellings.
According to sources, locals were compelled to leave their houses due to continuous attacks, leaving behind deserted towns.
In order to bring peace back to Yagba West, locals have persisted in pleading with authorities for prompt action.
The Senate Committee on Services is chaired by Senator Karimi, who is based in the local government.
