Four people killed as gunmen attack Uzodinma’s hometown police station

Gunmen have stormed the Omuma Divisional Police Headquarters in the Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, which is the home town of the state’s governor, Hope Uzodinma, only 24 hours after the Umuguma Divisional Police Headquarters in Owerri West LGA was attacked.

On Saturday, gunmen assaulted Prof George Obiozor, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, at his country residence in Awo-Omanma, Oru East LGA.

On arriving at the Omuma Divisional Police Headquarters, the assailants were said to have engaged police officers in a gunfight.
Four of the assailants were killed, according to state police spokesman Micheal Abattam, after police officers and Department of Security Service agents engaged the terrorists in a fire fight.

“Sequel to the modified and invigorated strategies put in place by the Command under the watchful eye of the indefatigable Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Rabiu Hussaini psc, to forestall all criminals activities within the state, especially attacks on police stations, on March 20, 2022, at about 0300 hours, hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network terrorist group

“Police operatives engaged the hoodlums in a ferocious gun battle, and four of them were killed on the spot, while the others fled into the jungle, having suffered a crushing defeat, with a number of them suffering varying degrees of bullet wounds.” The combined security operatives did not suffer any casualties.

“From the neutralized bandits, five undetonated Improvised Explosive Devices of various sizes, as well as charms, were seized on the scene.” The devices have been brought into custody by the Police Bomb Unit for explosion.

“In the meanwhile, the Command’s Tactical Teams are scouring the jungle with vigour and aggression in order to apprehend the fleeing hoodlums and retrieve their guns and ammo, since they are unable to go far due to the extensive damage they have sustained.”
