Following the Super Eagles’ poor performance, former presidents of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) have called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to fire Gernot Rohr, the team’s technical adviser, immediately.

The ex-presidents praised the NFF for providing the enabling environment for the team to thrive in a statement signed by Steve Alabi, Fan Ndubuoke, Sani Zaria, Olu Amadasun, and Saidu Abubakar, but regretted that the Franco-German coach’s technical ineptitude has remained the Super Eagles’ bane.

The presidents bemoaned the fact that Nigerians now watch the Super Eagles with their hearts in their mouths because the team no longer has a consistent playing style.

“There is no base, speed, or pattern on the team.” This is why, whenever our beloved Super Eagles, led by Rohr, play, Nigerians’ hearts are in their mouths.

“We can’t sit back and watch a coach who doesn’t have the technical ability to manage his own country’s national team lead us into a ditch.”

“The team’s current path does not appear to have a light at the end of the tunnel.” As a result, we urge the NFF to fire Rohr as soon as possible and replace him with a world-class coach for the Super Eagles,” the statement reads in part.
