Five jailed for circulating ex-Speaker’s nude video, obtaining N38m

On Tuesday, five individuals found guilty of cyberstalking and scamming Timothy Owoeye, the former speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, of N38 million were sentenced by Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State.

Owoeye’s 13-second nude video went popular online at some point in 2018.

Some others harassed Owoeye in the video, claiming he was visiting their community to carry out a ceremony.

The people in the video were detained by the Osun State Police Command after it was purportedly leaked online. It was said that they had utilized the video to steal almost N38 million from Owoeye.

On October 19, 2018, the five defendants—Kazaeem Agbabiaka, Rasheed Ojonla, Babatunde Oluajo, Adebiyi Kehinde, Femi Oseni, and Oyebanji Oyeniyi—were charged before the court on counts that included advance free fraud and cyberstalking, as well as conspiracy.

Judge Ayo-Emmanuel rendered a decision in the case, declaring that the guilty behaved like a web syndicate, causing suffering to their victims, and that they were not deserving of mercy.

Agbabiaka, Oyeniyi, Ojonla, and Oluajo were ultimately found guilty and given five years in prison for conspiracy and advance-free fraud.

Ismaila Azeez was cleared of all charges pertaining to cyberstalking by the judge, while Oseni was found guilty of the same allegation and given a five-year prison sentence.
