FIFA has given the Local Organizing Committee the green light to hold the inaugural edition of the Aisha Buhari Invitational Women’s Tournament, also known as the Aisha Buhari Cup.
The six-nation invitational is being held in honor of the First Lady of the Federal Republic, Dr (Mrs) Aisha Muhammadu Buhari’s name and office.
The world body announced in a letter dated September 8, 2021, signed by Gordon Savic, Head of Qualifiers and International Matches, that the 15th – 21st September showpiece, which will be held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena and Agege Stadium in Lagos, and will feature hosts Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, Morocco, and South Africa’s ‘A’ Women teams, has been sanctioned.

The participating teams are reminded that the Laws of the Game must be carefully followed during these tier-1 matches.
“Finally, we’d like to call your attention to FIFA Circular No.1735, which was issued on October 1, 2020. The FIFA Return to Football – International Match Protocol (IMP) or an equivalent protocol of your confederation that is consistent with the aforementioned Protocol must be strictly followed,” the letter stated.
With the approval, the six-nation extravaganza will kick off on Wednesday, September 15th at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan with a match between the Super Falcons, the nine-time African champions, and the Mali Female Eagles.
