The Federal Government refuted a claim that Mohammed Usman, the nation’s ambassador to the Republic of Niger, had been expelled from the nation on Saturday.
Francisca Omayuli, who serves as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesperson, pleaded with the people to ignore such reports in a statement.
The statement said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been alerted to rumors circulating on social media that the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Niger, H. E. Mohammed Usman, was expelled on Friday, August 25, 2023, and given 48 hours to depart the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants to make it known to the public that this information is untrue and should be ignored as a result.
The Federal Government of Nigeria issues a warning against the dissemination of unreliable information that could endanger the ECOWAS’s ongoing efforts to mediate the political impasse in Niger.
