The charges against former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, have been reduced by the Federal Government from twenty to just six counts.
The charges, which were originally set at N6.5 billion but have since been drastically reduced to N1.2 billion and are focused on alleged procurement fraud.
The updated allegations hold Emefiele accountable for allegedly giving Sa’adatu Ramallan Yaro, a CBN employee, and her business, April1616 Investment Ltd., advantages.
The allegations describe incidents in which April1616 Investment Ltd., a company in which Yaro is a director, is purportedly the recipient of contracts for the delivery of several automobiles.
The only defendant in the new charge is Emefiele, according to the modified charge sheet with the marking CR/577/2023 that The Punch was able to view on Wednesday.

Several obstacles have been encountered since the case was first filed in August, one of which being Emefiele’s nonattendance during court proceedings due to the Department of State Services’ inability to produce him.
The arraignment procedure was further complicated by the strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.
