In order to help millions of Nigerians escape poverty, the Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to working with the UN to develop sustainable solutions.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Friday, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, revealed this.
He revealed it soon after he met with Deputy UN Secretary-General Amina Mohammed.
According to Yilwatda, the ministry has long enjoyed support from the UN, which has assisted the government in implementing several of its social intervention initiatives.
According to the minister, the collaboration became essential to advancing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which addresses poverty alleviation, young unemployment, and assistance for victims of climate change and violence.
We have the chance to collaborate with the UN to provide assistance to those impacted by armed conflicts, insurgency, and climate change throughout the nation.

To make sure that we give each component of the economic changes a human face, we should pay particular attention to people who will be impacted by them.
“This collaboration will guarantee that we provide long-lasting solutions to our people’s predicament.
“It will guarantee that we uplift the greatest number of people out of poverty, lower youth unemployment, and guarantee the safety of our communities,” he stated.
According to Yilwatda, the ministry will shortly publish its 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan, which will serve as a roadmap for the government’s efforts to combat poverty in Nigeria.
“In the upcoming weeks, we will present our Humanitarian Response Plan, which will include an evaluation of the needs of all humanitarian issues and challenges around the nation.
Using that Humanitarian Response Plan, we will collaborate with the UN to generate money for the nation worldwide.
“The Durable Solution Plan and program that we are working on will also take effect within the first quarter of this year.”I’m confident that Mr. President, who is committed to reducing poverty, has allocated a significant amount of funds for the safety net. In particular, if you look at the planned 2025 Budget, you’ll see that safety nets have received a significant amount of financing.
According to him, “the government has also verified these plans to make sure they work with the UN to reduce poverty and provide a safety net for the poorest of the poor.”
According to Yilwatda, the ministry’s goal was to generate a minimum of two million jobs by the end of 2025.
The UN Deputy Secretary-General responded by assuring the federal government that the UN is prepared to work with them to address the nation’s multifaceted poverty.
Mohammed claimed that the ministry was essential to the UN’s effort to guarantee the safety of individuals and communities and to help them escape poverty.
People are moving around today due to various crises, conflicts, climate change, and internal displacement brought on by many adversities.
As a result, this ministry serves as a hub for preventative efforts and humanitarian crisis resolution.
“The nation’s poverty indexes are high.
“So, you have to accommodate host communities as well when they come in so that you don’t have to deal with people coming in and causing social tensions,” she stated.
Mohammed emphasized that in order to meet the nation’s expanding humanitarian needs, more funding must be allocated to social intervention.
“The nation requires significant investment in order to undergo those transitions that will increase our resilience,” she stated.
