The federal government has appealed to organised labour unions to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in achieving the goals outlined in his Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at transforming the nation’s socio-economic landscape.
Delivering a goodwill message at the commissioning ceremony of the new national secretariat of the Construction and Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (CCESSAN) in Kuje, Abuja, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, emphasized the importance of collaboration between government and labour in driving national development.
The event also featured the official launch of two books on workplace safety—Occupational Safety and Health Simplified and Occupational Safety and Health Handbook—authored by civil engineer Iyenoma T. Osazee.
Labour as a Key Partner in Nation-Building
Minister Dingyadi highlighted the critical role of organised labour in fostering a stable and productive work environment, describing it as a “cornerstone for nation-building and progress.”
“Organised labour remains a vital stakeholder in our shared mission to ensure decent work, fair conditions, and sustainable development. I urge you to partner with the Tinubu-led administration to realise the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
He assured the union of the Federal Government’s continued commitment to improving labour conditions and supporting equitable practices across all sectors.
CCESSAN Secretariat: A Symbol of Progress
Commending the association’s leadership and dedication, Dingyadi described the newly commissioned building as a symbol of unity, professionalism, and strength among construction industry workers.
“The infrastructure we celebrate today reflects your contribution to national development. It is not just a physical structure but a beacon of excellence for civil engineering professionals across the country,” he stated.
He called on stakeholders across government, private sector, and labour to champion policies that promote a thriving construction industry, urging collective focus on sustainable practices, workforce training, and high standards of safety and ethics.
A Vision Realized: CCESSAN Leadership Speaks
In his welcome remarks, Comrade Temidayo Ayodeji, President of CCESSAN, celebrated the occasion as a significant milestone in the association’s history.
“This building represents more than bricks and mortar—it embodies our commitment to professional growth, unity, and national development,” he said.
Ayodeji noted that the successful completion of the secretariat and the publication of the safety books reflect the resilience and collective effort of the union’s past and present leadership, its members, and supportive employers.
He also underscored the importance of the new publications as valuable resources for industry professionals, researchers, and students, contributing to knowledge and capacity-building in the construction and civil engineering fields.
Moving Forward Together
In a statement issued by Patience Onuobia, Head of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Labour, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a harmonious labour environment and supporting initiatives that uplift Nigeria’s workforce.
The commissioning of the CCESSAN secretariat and the launch of critical safety publications mark a renewed commitment to excellence, safety, and innovation in Nigeria’s construction sector.
