FG Approved Abba Kyari’s Extradition Request From United States

The Federal Government has agreed to extradite suspended Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari, to the United States of America.

In April 2021, the US requested Kyari’s extradition for his alleged role in Abass Ramon, aka Hushpuppi’s $1.1 million wire fraud.

According to Vanguard, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), received approval for his extradition after filing an application before the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The Extradition Act was used to file the FHC/ABJ/CS/249/2022 application.

Malami stated that the crime committed against Kyari is neither political nor trivial.

The AGF stated that the request for Kyari’s surrender was made in good faith and in the interest of justice, not to persecute or punish him because of his race, religion, nationality, or political beliefs.

According to the AGF, surrendering the suspended ACP will not be unjust in light of all the circumstances surrounding the offence.

He added that Kyari was not facing any criminal charges in Nigeria for the same offense.

Remember that the US Embassy requested Kyari’s extradition in April 2021, with the approval of the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

Meanwhile, Kyari’s bail has been revoked by a Federal High Court in Abuja, pending the outcome of the NDLEA’s investigation into his alleged involvement in international drug trafficking.
