Twelve people lost their lives in fire incidents in Lagos and Ogun states between January and October, according to the Federal Fire Service Zone F record.
At the start of an awareness campaign aimed at preventing fire incidents ahead of the year-end harmattan, Mr. Chika Njoku, the Assistant Controller-General for Zone F, revealed this information on Thursday in Lagos.
According to Njoku, 216 fire incidents resulted in the rescue of 133 people and the loss of property estimated to be worth N23.1 billion, out of a total of N4.7 billion lost to fire in the zone during that time.
180 additional people were also saved from various calamities during the same time frame.
Njoku alerted Lagos residents ahead of the harmattan to avoid doing anything that might start a fire.
